Speak to our Exeter solar panel installers to find out more about storing energy for later use.
Solar panel battery storage enables you to store solar-generated electricity for later use, providing significant advantages, especially if your energy consumption is higher in the evening compared to daytime.

The price of batteries depends on the size of system you have and how much you would like to be able to store. However on average, storage batteries can cost anywhere between £2,000 and £10,000 each.
Bonus tip: When installed at the same time as solar panels, batteries are subject to 0% VAT until 2027. If added to existing solar PV systems the VAT is 20%.

The size you need will depend on energy consumption and how much energy you're generating. Cap

Batteries need some ventilation, the ideal location to install them is in a garage. However, they can go under stairs or even in lofts. Our surveyors can offer advice on the best location during our FREE home survey.

The recommended number of solar panels for your roof depends on your energy consumption and available space.
A 6kW solar panel system is recommended for a home with over five people, while a 5kW system is typical for a home of four people.
Size of solar panels | Number of 250w panels | Estimated surface area |
|---|---|---|
3kW | 12 | 19.2 m2 |
4kW | 16 | 25.5 m2 |
5kW | 20 | 32.2 m2 |
6kW | 24 | 38.5 m2 |

How do they work?
Solar PV cells are made of lots of layers, each containing semi-conductive materials, that when the light shines on them they move electrons to create a flow of electricity.
Any energy produced can then be stored for later use with solar panel battery storage.

How many do I need?
When considering Solar panels, space is a key factor. The more roof space you have available, means you can fit more solar panels.
In general, a roof area of 10 m2 - 20 m2 would be enough to provide up to 45% of your electricity.

At Lumos Solar, we have a team of skilled and experienced solar panel installers with a wealth of expertise in fitting solar panels for both commercial and residential properties.
